Connecting a custom domain to a website built with Webstudio

At a glance

The community member is having trouble adding their domain to a website built with Webstudio. The issue is that Webstudio requires a CNAME record with the name "@" pointing to a specific domain, but this configuration is not possible with their domain registrar, FastComet, as CNAME records cannot coexist with other record types for the root domain. FastComet suggests this is a limitation of DNS standards, not specific to their service.

The comments suggest that good DNS providers like Namecheap and Cloudflare do support CNAME records on the root domain. However, Cloudflare does not offer .de TLDs, which is the domain the community member is using. The community member tries using Cloudflare as a nameserver, but encounters an error about an existing A, AAAA, or CNAME record. After some troubleshooting, the community member is able to successfully change their DNS settings, and the issue is marked as "SOLVED".

Hey,
I tried to add my domain to a website I built with webstudio but I´m not able to add the cname. I´m working with fastcomet for my domain.

"The issue is that Webstudio requires a CNAME record with the name "@" (representing the root domain) pointing to "yoqofi-bikoj-alomo.customers.wstd.io". However, this configuration is not possible in FastComet's DNS zone for two main reasons:

A CNAME record cannot coexist with other record types (like A and MX) for the root domain.
The root domain typically requires an A record pointing to an IP address, not a CNAME record pointing to another domain.

FastComet suggests that this is a limitation of DNS standards, not specific to their service, and changing domain providers likely won't solve the issue."

Is this something you can help me with?

They are full of shit. Good DNS providers support CNAME on root/apex. Namecheap, cloudflare to name a few
I know, but cloudflare doesn´t offer .de tlds
It´s a bummer
you can also use cloudflare as a nameserver, its even free
sign up, point your registrar to cloudflare and forget your registrar
I´ll do that thank!
Now this is weird.
Cloudflare gives me an error as well:

An A, AAAA, or CNAME record with that host already exists. For more details, refer to . (Code: 81053)
I deleted my A name and replaced it with the cname
Now webstudio tells me this:
custom hostname does not CNAME to this zone.
Ok, I tried the automatic setup and it successfully changed my dns.
Now I will wait and find out
