Content Gating and Password Protection in Webstudio

At a glance

The community member who posted the original question is wondering if Webstudio will have some form of authentication or content gating, such as password protecting pages, in the future. The comments suggest that authentication should be handled by the backend, and that there are many existing solutions available that could be integrated with Webstudio, rather than building custom authentication. Some community members note that Webstudio may not be primarily for building apps, but that the definition of an "app" is broad, and that features like authentication could be useful even for simpler websites or online shops.

This is more of a question rather than a suggestion. I don’t see it in roadmap but way way down the line, will there be some sort of Auth or method for gating content using Webstudio itself? For example password protecting pages.

I think auth should be part of the backend strategy, its possible now with supabase and others
I am not sure if there is a strong reason to introduce our own auth, given how many solutions are out there
Hmm. I suppose that makes sense given that Webstudio isn’t really for apps. Can probably make a use case to have some sort of HTTP Basic Auth but at the same time I can see why it isn’t really a necessity. I don’t have a Pro plan yet so haven’t been able to experiment but thanks for chiming in Oleg!
even once we reach the state where webstudio is really for apps, I would rather see that its easy to use some external integration
I wouldn't even say its right now not for apps, the definition of what app is is rather a range
is an online shop an app?
That’s a good point. Reaping the benefits of decoupling FE from BE.
