Custom hostname does not CNAME to this zone.

At a glance
The community member is having issues publishing their site on a custom domain and exporting it as a static site to upload to WordPress. The community members have discussed the DNS settings, including the presence of an A record and a CNAME record that may not be configured correctly. The solution suggested is to remove the A record and ensure the CNAME record is set up correctly to direct traffic to the publishing platform.

Hi, I have an issue when trying to publish the site on my custom domain. Please help me solve this one.
Also when I try to export the site as a static site and upload it to my wordpress I end up encountering an error. What can I do to publish the site correctly on my custom domain?
Best regards.

  1. How long ago have you added the records?
  2. What DNS provider do you use?
  1. Over a week ago
  2. dhosting.pl

Here's what I see for your DNS. No Cname and no txt record. Can you scrreenshot your DNS?
Hi, was this resolved?πŸ˜…
I am having the same issue. I am unable to publish to any custom domain.
Can you share your domain and screenshot your dns records?
I can. one sec
Strange. In my admin panel of the hosting provider they're there:

You have an A record pointing to an IP for your root domain which means it's pointing to something besides webstudio (we don't use A records)

Also the CNAME is pointing to *.hypnomental.eu. I'm not familiar with that syntax though I'm assuming it's not correct
Looks like that wildcard would be for subdomains anyways
John, thank you for your assistance! I tried deleting the A record which only resulted in my website being unaccessable at all.
Shall I remove both records you mentioned?
Sure thing. Removing A record was only half of it, the CNAME record is then what would be repsonsible for directing the traffic to Webstudio. So ensure the A is gone and CNAME is added matching the provided info int he publish dialog
Any help on offer for this? Same issue as Godaddy does not accept @ on CNAME
Whats your question?
I'm getting the same error message as above.
Thank you, i'll check it out.
I can get www. to work but not the domain itself
just use www in the field in godaddy
I've done that, but what I'm saying is the domain typed without www. isn't propagating
that can take up to 48 hours
all you can do is ensure you typed in the right stuff then wait
Just to clarify, I have now added both a www and * CNAME entry. Should I delete the * one (since @ isn't allowed)?
yeah you should just have www and the txt one
OK, 24 hours in and on whatsmydns.net, there's still not a single propagation for my domain without the www, is that usual?
Can take up to 48 hours. If you want to share a screenshot of your records and your domain name I can double check them though this doesnt havent anything to do with propagation
OK, not sure if this will suffice, but what I've just done is "domain forwarded" xixlabs.ai to www.xixlabs.ai. And now xixlabs.ai points correctly to the splash page.
how can it point correctly to the splash page if GoDaddy doesnt support CNAME flattening and youre not using www?
can you screenshot that record
I'm saying I used the "domain forward" feature
And now xixlabs.ai points correctly to the splash page

im talking about this statement
The splash page is hosted on www.xixlabs.ai, as per the above CNAME. And If I "domain forward" xixlabs.ai to www.xixlabs.ai, that's how.
The whole purpose of doing this exercise is that nowadays most ppl ommit the www. from domain names.
This is what's happening:

Somebody goes to www.yourdomain.com -> it redirects to yourdomain.com

Then DNS goes "where is yourdomain.com" and your DNS records point to some IP address (not webstudio as we dont support that method).

Your two options are stated in docs (use www or move to cloudflare).

If you use www, your domain has to be served on www.yourdomain.com, not redirected
I believe those A records you see at the top were added just now after I domain forwarded xixlabs.ai to www.xixlabs.ai. However, despite that, are you suggesting I carry on waiting and the domain xixlabs.ai will eventually propagate?
No.

Option 1: Delete A records, keep CNAME record, and delete forwarding. Give it time then you domain will be available at www.yourdomain.com*

Option 2: Move to Cloudflare if you want your domain to be available at yourdomain.com

*it will be available assuming your added the correct txt record as well
OK I see. So the answer to the original question I asked is currently (without Cloudflare) there's no way to have the non-www version point correctly to the DNS record. Got it.
LOL, that's what I asked right at the top but was under the impression you'd advised "to wait up to 48hrs". But in any case, will consider the Cloudfare option.
