The post asks if there is a way to import wireframes from Figma or similar design tools. The community members discuss the limitations of existing plugins that claim to provide this functionality. They agree that due to the inherent structural differences between design tools and responsive web development, a truly effective way to convert Figma designs to the web is unlikely to be achieved with a plugin. Some community members suggest exploring the reverse approach, where a webstudio component library could be used in Figma, but this is not a current priority for the core team. Overall, the consensus is that while there is demand for this feature, the technical challenges make it an inherently suboptimal solution.
Webflow does have a figma-to-webflow plugin but it is inherently very limited and not part of an optimal workflow.
Due to the inherent structural differences between a free canvas design program like Figma and responsive website, I do not believe a useful way to convert from figma to the web will ever be possible.
@Taylor there are updates on this, did you try latest? I think it is leveraging autolayout > flex and it is providing components that can be transfered, so they are kinda trying to bridge the gap
It's an inherent limitation that will never be overcome with a plugin. Autolayout and flexbox are too dissimilar. Figma only has pixels, no responsive units like % or vw. Anything imported will have unique classes, not following any style system.
Again, it's just a thing that they offer because people ask for it, not because it's useful. An experienced vis dev won't see benefit and an inexperienced dev won't understand the limitations.
I am not fan of the figma > anything thing either, its always going to be suboptimal, but there will be always a giant pressure, because figma is being used by all designers and they want these abilities without learning webflow/webstudio
If this does ever come down the line, I would love to just see a similar feature as FlutterFlow did where they mostly focus on importing the Figma Styles for Colors and Text and whatnot. Just my opinion though, love the work you are doing with this platform, mad respect to the WebStudio team!
