Functional difference between target link methods

At a glance

The community member who posted the original question is curious about the functional difference between two ways of making a target link: A) using a link icon under the href with the target, and B) using a page icon under the href and choosing the page from a dropdown. They note that the two methods seem to render the same on the front end.

In the comments, another community member suggests that method B has the advantage of automatically updating the link if the ID or name of the page is changed. They also speculate that additional features like smooth scrolling may be added to method B in the future. Another community member confirms that method B does automatically update the link if the page name is changed, and they indicate they will use that method for their use case.

There is no explicitly marked answer in the post or comments, but the community members seem to have concluded that method B (using the page icon and dropdown) is the preferred approach due to the automatic update functionality.

Is there a functional difference between these two ways of making a target link?

A. link icon under href with the target
B. page icon under href choosing page and then dropdown

They seem to render the same on the front end. Just curious if there's something technically different.

Interesting... for one, if you change the ID using B then it'll auto update the link.

And maybe in the future additional features will be attached to method B like smooth scrolling... just a guess.
Oh, that would be nice!

I just tested something; if I change the name of a page using method B, it will auto-update. So that's the route I'll take for this use case.
