Hello Webstudio community!

At a glance

The community member is considering using Webstudio for their freelancing projects and has a few questions. They are concerned about Webstudio's website performance, especially when using GSAP and slider libraries. They also wonder if leveraging Google's spreadsheet API as a CMS would be compatible with Webstudio and whether the API calls would be server-side or client-side.

In the comments, another community member states that Webstudio's performance is better than Webflow or Framer, and they have published content on the topic. The community member also notes that there are ways to negatively impact performance, such as using too many fonts or blocking scripts.

The original community member acknowledges that they may be overthinking the performance aspect and should focus on creating instead. They ask a final question about the security of the API calls, and another community member confirms that the resources are server-side.

The original community member concludes that the answers have addressed their major questions and that they may be better off learning Webstudio instead of pursuing a 5% performance boost with Astro.

I've been looking to use Webstudio on my freelancing projects, but I have a couple questions I'd need real experience to know, so I'd like to just straight up ask someone who's more experienced in Webstudio,

First, I'm questioning Webstudio's websites performance as I'd like to keep the website as performant as possible while trying to develop something more polished using GSAP, Slider libraries and stuff, and I'm certain I can import these things in, I was just worried about performance,

Second! I was wondering if leveraging google's spreadsheet API as a CMS would be compatible with Webstudio, if so, would the items be fetched server or client side?

I'm sorry I don't know Webstudio enough to know theese things, but I'm guessing a regular user would know the answers to these questions

I haven't used spreadsheet api, but generally it should work.
Perf - better than webflow or framer. We have published a lot of stuff on the topic
Hello @Oleg Isonen thanks for the context, I will look into Perf, if you say it answers me, it does! 🫑
there is a bunch of stuff that you can do to destroy it yourself though
like using tons of fonts or blocking scripts
You are correct! But here I was refering to none controlable variables from my end, I tend to follow best practices for performance in terms of writing JS, optimize icons, svgs, everything around those lines, coming from Webflow those are essential,

Maybe I'm overthinking it and should just start creating instead of worrying about the tool,

@Oleg Isonen one last question! Could I just ask about the fetching API aspect I mention in my main question?
I'm sure the API will work I was just wondering if the API call would be secure as in having it serversided so I can set API keys as variables there and not have to worry about quotas from random exploiters, I'm sorry but I've ran into this issue and I'm not finding an asnwer

Again, thank you so much for helping me πŸ™
yes, resources are ssrd
Alright, you've cleared major questions + in the meantime your simple answer made me realize that maybe Astro isn't worth the 5% performance boost and I'm just better of learning Webstudio and just produce more,

Thanks man
