How do you unpublish the website on Webstudio domain and just have it on the custom domain?

At a glance

The community member published a website but it remained live even after they unchecked the "publish" option. The comments discuss that this is not an "unpublish" feature, but rather a "publish latest changes" feature. When a custom domain is added, the site may become un-indexed by Google. The community member was able to see the site in Google search results, but was told it would be un-indexed going forward.

The community members discuss how to remove the site from Google search results, including submitting a removal request to Google Search Console. They also discuss how Google may have discovered the site in the first place, as it was linked from another page. To verify the site in Google Search Console, the community member tried adding the HTML verification tag, but had issues with it not being verified. Eventually, they realized they needed to publish the site to the staging environment for the verification to work properly.

There is no explicitly marked answer in the comments, but the community members provide guidance and troubleshooting steps to help the original poster resolve the issue.

That's not an unpublish feature, It's "do you want to publish the latest changes to this domain"
When you add a custom domain, like you have, there other one is no indexed by the way
Not indexed. Okay. It was and showed up on Google Search, but you are saying now that I have the custom domain, it will be "un"indexed?
Heard that! Thank you.
So, will I have to use Google Search Console to remove it. It is now showing up as a top search, not just on my device.
They'll remove it automatically. Before, it was not no indexed, now it is. So probably next time they crawl it they will remove it.

You can also submit it to GSC to have them recrawl it manually to expedite things
So, if I still see it in search results in the next few days, how would I submit a removal to GSC, if I do not own the domain (Webstudio does
You should still be able to add it because you can prove ownership of your site/subdomain
Just out of curiosity, how did Google discover that domain in the first place? You would have to link to it from somewhere for them to discover it
Good point.

I linked it on a Landing Page https://landing.localwebpilot.com/ (what was the orginal homepage via Carrd.io) so I can find it and test it as I was building it out.
@John Siciliano Thanks for the help on this matter.
So, should I add it as a Domain or URL Prefix?

I assume Domain will want to look at all the sites on wstd.io

So, URL Prefix?

I went with URL Prefix and I am trying to verify by adding the HRML tag from GCS to Webstudio Project Settings > Custom Code

Yes, I published the Websudio project after I added the HTML tag πŸ˜†
Maybe I have to add it the Cutoms Metada on the Homepage? Just guessing. Forgive me

In the head/custom code field shoudl have worked just fine
the custom meta could work but the way you are doing it is wrong. just stick with the custom code field and try again πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Here is what I was not doing that I just did to solve this so it was being Verified.

I was NOT publishing to the Staging site (left unchecked when hitting Publish).

So... intern, there was not HTML tag being added and to verify. DUH πŸ€¦πŸ½β€β™‚οΈ
