Installed Webstudio app shows address bar when opening projects

At a glance

The community member has installed Webstudio as a PWA on their Mac using Chrome, and everything works fine. However, when they open a project, it loads on a different subdomain (e.g. p-xxxxx.apps.webstudio.is), causing the browser UI (address bar) to appear again, even in the installed app window. They would like to expand the PWA scope to include project subdomains like *.apps.webstudio.is, so that projects can open without the browser chrome inside the PWA window.

In the comments, another community member suggests that the community member would need to do it where they created the PWA, as Webstudio is not providing a PWA manifest at the moment. The original community member acknowledges this and notes that having an official PWA manifest (with scope including project subdomains like *.apps.webstudio.is) would be really useful for a fullscreen, app-like experience, especially for users who want to work distraction-free. They hope this gets considered in the roadmap. Another community member agrees and suggests the community member could contribute to the open-source project by creating an issue, as it is a low priority for the core team, but someone else could take it.

Useful resources
Hi! I've installed Webstudio as a PWA on my Mac using Chrome. Everything works fine, but when I open a project, it loads on a different subdomain (e.g. p-xxxxx.apps.webstudio.is), and that causes the browser UI (address bar) to appear again, even in the installed app window.

Would it be possible to expand the PWA scope to include project subdomains like *.apps.webstudio.is? That way, projects can open without the browser chrome inside the PWA window.

Thank you for the great tool โ€” loving Webstudio so far!

I think you would need to do it where you created the PWA, because we are not providing a PWA manifest at the moment.
Got it, thanks! Just wanted to note that having an official PWA manifest (with scope including project subdomains like *.apps.webstudio.is) would be really useful for a fullscreen, app-like experience โ€” especially for users who want to work distraction-free.

I hope this gets considered in the roadmap. Webstudio is great, and that would make it even smoother to use daily!
agree, btw its open source, you might consider contributing this ๐Ÿ˜‰

Created an issue, low prio for the core team, but someone else can take it, we will accept a pr https://github.com/webstudio-is/webstudio/issues/5224
