Legality and ethics of using a Webflow theme in Webstudio.
At a glance
The community members are discussing the ethics and legality of using a paid Webflow theme in Webstudio by copying and pasting the content. The consensus is that as long as the theme is paid for, there is no issue with using it in Webstudio, as the user has the right to use the content they purchased. However, the community members caution that the user should review the licensing terms, as Webflow may prohibit using free templates for the sole purpose of downloading them and publishing them elsewhere. Overall, the community members believe that using a paid Webflow theme in Webstudio is likely legal and ethical, as long as the user is not violating any specific licensing terms.
Wanted to guage the ethics/legality of buying a theme on Webflow and using the copy/paste feature to get it into Webstudio. Can anyone see a problem with this either from a T’s and C’s perspective or even morally?
No, you are paying the author. The difference between using it on webflow and in webstudio is non-existent. E.g. you could export it as html/css and publish anywhere. Why does it mean anything in eethics/legality?
Webflows theme library is vast and impressive. This’ll be a way to bypass hosting on Webflow and still have awesome design functionality of Webstudio.
I only ask all this because Webflow’s stance on open source is slightly different. Morally I’d come to the same conclusion so note I guess I need to look into licensing of the theme.
