@u_walk, do you mean a language translation on the front-end of the site? If so, yes. You can either use an automatic translate or manually create the content and map the url differently.

@Jeremy do you know if it is enough to enter the language letters – or should i use the pattern de-DE (for German, Germany). I tried looking it up in the sitemap, but as all pages are still set to NoIndex, the sitemap is almost empty.

@Holger I have a little experience in this, but not tons. The patterns we use are with the regional targeting. I setup en-CA personally as there's different spelling than en-US on some words (personal work is only for local small Canadian businesses, my career deals with international SaaS products).
It's helpful for screenreaders to provide proper pronunciation as well.

That was already helpful. I was not 100% sure whether the second bit just sets the language flavour or declares the regional targeting. From your answer I learned it's the latter – in my case it would make sense to go with just "de" then.
Yeah, I think it depends on your desired outcome. I asked GPT for an example in German (I can't speak it, so I needed help).
For example:
• “January” translates to Januar in Germany (de-DE) and Austria (de-AT), but in Switzerland (de-CH), it is sometimes referred to as Jänner.
• Numbers and date formats can also vary by region.

Yeah, there are definedly a few differences in written langugage in Switzerland and Austria (much more so in dialects, though) . Yet, as regional targeting may affect ranking you might lose visibility in countries that can read your content just fine. Google recommends leaving regional targeting empty when you target speakers of [language], regardless of location.
