Logging in to webstudio without google or github

At a glance

The community member is interested in trying out Webstudio but is unsure about how to log in without using Google or GitHub. The comments indicate that these are the only login options currently available, but the Webstudio team is considering adding email and passkey support in the future. Some community members feel that the lack of email login is counterintuitive to the open-source and open nature of Webstudio, and they would prefer to move away from using big tech accounts like Google and GitHub. A community member suggests that creating a new GitHub account may be a more privacy-friendly option compared to using a Google account.

Looking into Webstudio, not totally sure about it yet but I was gonna try it out and then was greeted with this. πŸ˜… How do I log in without Google or Github?

These are only options at the moment. Though we are considering login by email+passkeys support.
That would be really nice thank you! Can you share more about why these options were included as the defaults? To me feels counterintuitive to the open source/open nature of webstudio. Also email is pretty basic and feels like a strange ommission. πŸ€” Passkeys are newer so makes more sense that they weren't included.
@ben I'm not on the team, but I'd assume it was just fastest and easiest to setup with those providers. Email/passwords and passkeys have more maintance behind them.
Thanks Jeremy!
I agree, felt counterintuitive to me as well from open source/open nature perspective. Was something holding me back initially to sign up. (pretty happy I did anyway!)
To consider a bit of privacy you can more easily create a new github account than a google account and sign in with that new github account.
I use the GitHub method myself. Been able to move away almost entirely from google.
+1 on adding email as a login option. Planning on deleting both my Google and Github accounts as part of a general move away from big tech
