Self-Hosting and Multiple Users Access to One Project
Self-Hosting and Multiple Users Access to One Project
At a glance
The community member is evaluating Webstudio on behalf of a group that wants to switch from Webflow and self-host the builder to control access to projects and leverage the CMS. They are concerned about the lack of ability to control who has access to the builder and the lack of support for multiple users editing one project.
The comments suggest that sharing access to projects via shared links is currently possible, and that workspaces to manage access based on teams are planned but not yet implemented. The Webstudio team is considering a different licensing model or not open-sourcing the enterprise-focused features, as they believe for-profit organizations should pay for these capabilities. If the organization is willing to pay, the team is open to accelerating the development of these features.
There is no explicitly marked answer, but the community members discuss potential solutions and the Webstudio team's plans for the future.
I am currently evaluating Webstudio on behalf of a group that wants to switch away from Webflow. They want to self-host the builder so they can control access to the projects, as well as leverage the CMS stuff. I am currently building a completely custom backend/CMS for that side of the operation.
Based on what I can tell, I don't see anything surrounding the ability to control who has access to the builder (i.e. restricting logins), nor do I see, based on the cloud version, the ability for multiple users to edit one project.
What would be the best path forward for them when it comes to using Webstudio for their site?
Sharing access to projects like @TrySound says is currently possible by sharing a link to the project, so each user can have own account and have access to projects via shared links
We are also considering a different license or not open sourcing this part of webstudio, fyi, because that means for-profit organizations will use the software without contributing in any way. Workspaces and multi-user setup is a heavily enterprise style of usage and should require payment.
Depending on the prize we'd more than happily pay for this. Per seat prizing is reasonable and as long as we dont feel we are being extorted like over at Webflow, then we completely understand that you need to cover your time and expenses. Live and let live. π
