@Grug So that the whole thing doesn't get so confusing, here is the answer.
Did you only draw the prices? Or also the complete product information?
Yes! From my short test, I think it would be possible to access the complete product information. But, there might be some issues with some plugins that adds extra features. Such as add-ons. However, I could not get it to work with a password protected staging site, and didn't want to fiddle with the production site yet.
It all boils down to having those plugins provide the data over the API. I don't think we tried.
The checkout have an API. But it becomes an issue for me because I never dealed with API's before. I thought it might be more simple to redirect the user to the checkout that is installed as plugin in WordPress?
The checkout integration in WordPress is quite simple with secret keys. It works great.
well after the checkout it still has to provide the data. At the moment you can't build any of this without using APIs
I recommend learning it, its a valuable skill, its how the entire web works
unless you want the entire checkout process to stay there, so webstudio would just list products and then the rest happens there
I'm always into learning π
How complex can this integration be depending of course from the provided API, from your point of view, just for me to understand the scope?
I don't know how to answer this question tbh
If you are using Webstudio, you are a visual developer
It's a no code / low code solution
Using apis, in the spectrum of dev skills is 0.1%
Especially with help of ai
But obviously you are trying to build e-commerce with 2 other 3rd party services. So you need to know their limitations
Right. The question came to my mind when I thought it would've been a complex subject because I didn't work with API's before.
Thought, maybe the checkout could've been handled that way.
But, looking at the current situation, it doesn't make sense to use Webstudio for this purpose, I guess.
Its not about webstudio, its about skill. You either have desire and time to learn or not.
i agree with oleg. I think it's good to take your Project to Webstudio. Try it, learn it, win it.
I would also question the neeed for webstudio in your case. If you wanted something that works easily out of the box, maybe the tool you need is to use those tools with their ecosystem, maybe their template etc.
I wanted to have the Webstudio as a visual builder because, you know, it's Webstudio π
What I had in mind is to ditch Elementor. If it makes sense.
Of course, out of the box, everything is there. But, I thought I could actually use Webstudio this way for everything visually, so that I didn't have to deal with WP as much. Let's see how it develops. Thanks for the feedback.
I mean if the goal is to not deal with WP as much, then using wp and woocommerce is probably counterproductive.
Finally we didn't build webstudio as a plugin for wordpress like elementor and others because we want a new, better ecosystem. So ...
With static export in webstudio it would be actually possible now to create a plugin for wordpress and act in a similar way to elementor. Though we don't have time as a core team to do that. Maybe someone else will.
I think I should add more information for this subject. So, it becomes more clear to understand. Will add more information later on if you don't mind.
Currently, the website is running on WordPress & WooCommerce with Advanced Product Fields, Elementor, and other plugins. It's B2B only.
I never got the impression Webstudio being built as a plugin for WordPress.
What I had in mind specifically how to deal with the already available features that we have with WordPress, but change the platform.
Now, through out my research, I discovered Plasmic & Hygraph, and now Webstudio with Hygraph or in this case with WordPress.
After meetings with Plasmic and Hygraph, we realized, we don't have the budget for custom development or features that we have with WordPress.
But, the person from Hygraph said that we could setup the checkout with API's.
Create the structure in Hygraph and edit visually with Plasmic or Webstudio.
But, because of the budget restrain, we are unable to move forward to change the complete platform.
This is the reason that got me thinking if it was possible to use Webstudio with WordPress, since we already have everything setup there.
Does it make sense?
So, what's your take? π Feasible? I love Webstudio. It could be crazy if it was possible?
Feasible what? for you to learn new things? How am I supposed to tell ... technically everything is possible.
I haven't used these apis.
