Webstudio Essentials Course: Question

At a glance

The community member who posted the original post praised the instructor's course, stating that it significantly accelerated their Webstudio learning curve and taught them fundamental design principles. They encountered an alignment issue with the "Download" menu in the Desktop Nav build out and asked if there was a fix. The instructor responded that the alignment issue is due to the underlying third party library, and they have added an issue for it. The instructor also mentioned that they don't have plans for big updates to the course, as they have joined the Webstudio team and are now creating content on their YouTube channel, including a CMS playlist.

In the comments, another community member asked about the form component not having built-in content and not having states in the settings. The instructor clarified that the form component has been renamed to "Webhook Form" and is used for sending data to webhooks, while the form in the screenshot is better suited for filtering data.

Hey @John Siciliano :

First: Your course is fantastic. Radically accelerated my Webstudio learning curve + taught me some fundamental design principles in the process.

The iterative learning stages you implemented were perfectly structured AND watching you correct your mistakes in real time helped me internalize the logic of token system and the WS UI.

Second: In the Desktop Nav build out (on the "Build Notion" module): you ran into an alignment issue with the "Download" menu and wondered if WS team would update it so the menu would auto-attach to the parent. As I cloned your steps, I ran into the same alignment issue...is there a fix I missed since the videos came out?

Third: Are there big updates coming to the course? (or a new course on CMS, etc?)

hey thanks a lot glad it has helped you.

The alignment issue is actually a thing with the underlying third party library. They do have an indicator in the library that we aren't using so I added an issue for that here. https://github.com/webstudio-is/webstudio/issues/3956

You can control if the box is left, center, or right aligned but not relative to the parent. you can see this in action on radix https://www.radix-ui.com/primitives/docs/components/navigation-menu

Lastly, I don't have plans for that right now. That's because after creating the course, i joined the Webstudio Team and now creating content on our YouTube where you can find CMS too. Here's our CMS playlist https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_5IXjJeLvs&list=PL4vVqpngzeT6zVt2Jrsx3v1e0z3gq15O4&pp=gAQBiAQB
Ok, I do have one more question: The form component seems to not come with built in content. Is this a bug or has the feature changed?

Also doesn't seem to have states in the settings
that form changed its name to Webhook Form. It lets you send data to webhooks. The form in your screenshot is good for filtering data and more
ill add an update to the course under the video
